1.Both Mr. Jayaswail and Mr. Dadra may considered their behavior uthical, however they still it because they valued more their own interest. Mr. Jayaswail thought he got government officials such as Mr. Dadra behind him he would still be fine if something went wrong.Mr. Dadra definately was not only government official who " corporated" with businessman and got benefit.
2.Advanage of commiting this act for Mr. Jayaswail: huge profit, help build closer " mutual benefit" relationship with some politicians.
Disadvanage: damagaes his public image, harms to all Indian people and planet.
3.Mr. Jayaswail engaged in this conduct because he though everyone were in his position would do the same thing and he got powerful people behind him he had nothing to afraid.
4.I do not think India will ever be able to tackle corruption. India is not only country suffer corruption. I think when a country has serious corruption like India the issue go beyond just individual ethics issues, the bad political system is the key.I think that's why the business said on NY Time“If you were in his position, you would do the same thing.” Every one wants a mansion, a government officials ask you " do you want a mansion?" you reply "no", then they ask "why you do not want one,we all have one and it is legal" if you do not own a mansion, they will kick you out of this game because you break the rules. When it is need politians will sell people like Mr. Jayaswail out to appease public's anger on corruption.

I think what they said in the article is only partially correct,"If you were in his position, you would do the same thing.” Because I feel like this would be true only for the people in India, with the same position and same power. If Mr. Jayaswail had the same authority in America, I don't think he would be able to take the same corrupt actions.
ReplyDeleteI also think Mr. Jayaswals decision ruins his image and harms all the people in India. He stooped to a level where he is not going to be taken seriously from anyone in the business world. Although as you state the politician says "If you were in his position, you would do the same thing" so i do believe people in India have different views of morality than American's so he may still receive respect from a selected group of people.
