I was impressed by the expectancy theory which we learned in the class. Motivation= expectancy times instrumentality times valence. This theory sounds very reasonable and explains all factors that effect motivation. For example: If I know I can not pass Eco4100, I will lost motivation to contiute and I will drop the class. If I know no matter I study or not my grade is B I will not study hard as I would be because work outcomes I will receive is same. If I think how much knowledge I learn from a course is more importance than the grade I do not have to get an A and I loss motivation to study for A.
Though the class activies I found myself influenced more by Hygiene factors. I definately agreed with classmates that these factors do change on the long-run. Like one of my friends majored in accounting because she thought it made her easier to find job. however after worked for one year she found herself did not really interest in accounting. She said to me do something you really enjoy was more important than anything like security, salary.
I hope my employer in the future can show his/her recognition when I do good job and give me a lesson when I do something wrong because I want to know how is my performance. Giving me a lesson makes me feel better than ignoring me. I will think they do not bother to say anything to me because I am helpless.
